Signals tracked for TD2
The public records we read for TD2, ordered by how far ahead of a sponsor's CRO decision each one sits. Every sponsor on the Accounts tab came out of one of these records, and the record is linked there; the Sponsor universe tab shows the whole field the same records produce.
How we rank a record
Two questions decide a sponsor's place: how far ahead of vendor selection the record sits, and whether the sponsor looks like the ones TD2 already runs, a small oncology company at first-in-human or early Phase 2 with a handful of US sites. A filed record with a date beats a press release; a press release beats a job post.
The most useful record is not that a sponsor is busy. It is that the CRO for the next study is not yet fixed: a raise with no trial registered, a first record posted with the sponsor's own email as the contact, a clinical-operations function being hired for the first time, a study stopped for reasons that were not safety.
One record is a lead. A raise plus a first trial record, or a raise plus a first clinical hire, at the same sponsor is a window worth a BD director's call this week. A record proves the event and its date; it never proves an RFP, a budget, or that the incumbent is unhappy.
Before the bid list exists
Six to twelve months ahead of CRO selectionRecords a sponsor must file whether or not it has a website or a press release.
Form D raise with no trial record
A private placement filed with the SEC within fifteen days of first sale, at an oncology company with no industry Phase 1 or 2 record on ClinicalTrials.gov. The filing carries the amount sold, the date, the officers and the address. The money funds IND-enabling work and the first-in-human study whose CRO has not been chosen.
From this screenStipple Bio, Inc.: Form D for a $100.2 million Series A with $65.1 million sold, first sale March 31, 2026; STP-100 expected in the clinic early 2027; no record on ClinicalTrials.gov.
Raise plus first trial record at the same sponsor
A Form D in the last twelve months and a Phase 1 or 2 record first posted in the last 120 days, with the sponsor's own staff as the central contact. Two filings that agree on the stage; the expansion cohorts and the second study are the open decision.
From this screenTwoStep Therapeutics, Inc.: $62.5 million Series A and IND clearance announced September 9, 2026; Phase 1 record live September 10 with the sponsor's mailbox as contact.
The function that writes the RFP is being built
Three to nine months aheadSelf-disclosed, so date-checked against the operating record before it counts.
First clinical-operations or clinical-development leader posted
A live posting for a VP or Head of Clinical Operations, a VP Clinical Development, or a first Director of Clinical Operations at a company with no or one trial record, where the text says build, establish, vendor selection, or prepare for first-in-human. The person who will own the bid list has not started yet. Direct postings of this kind were scarce in the window read for this page; the appointment class below carried the example.
Chief Medical Officer appointed at a preclinical company
A dated appointment release at a company that has not yet sponsored its own study. The new CMO runs the selection and often brings relationships from prior roles, so the earliest weeks are the window.
From this screenLink Cell Therapies, Inc.: Chief Medical Officer appointed September 28, 2026; first company-run colorectal first-in-human intended for 2027.
The study is registered, the award may not be
Weeks to ninety daysThe behavior registry for the exact work TD2 sells.
First record posted as Not yet recruiting, sponsor still the contact
A Phase 1 or 2 oncology record with zero or one site listed and a sponsor-domain email as the central contact. The CRO is chosen or the sponsor is running sites directly; either way the dose-expansion and the next program are a new award.
From this screenDEM BioPharma, Inc.: first record posted September 4, 2026 as Not yet recruiting, zero sites, study-team mailbox, September start.
Radioligand or ADC sponsor approaching first-in-human
A first-in-human record, an IND clearance, or an isotope supply agreement at a radiopharmaceutical or antibody-drug-conjugate sponsor. Isotope supply dates the first dose more reliably than a press release.
From this screenIksuda Therapeutics Ltd.: US IND cleared July 30, 2026; Phase 1 posted July 31 with a November start at UCLA, MGH, Vanderbilt and MD Anderson.
Study stopped for reasons that were not safety, or a hold lifted
A ClinicalTrials.gov status moved to suspended, terminated or withdrawn in the last 120 days with an operational or funding reason, or a hold lifted. The sponsor still has the program and is often reconsidering its vendor.
From this screenAlpha-9 Oncology Inc.: melanoma Phase 1 terminated August 31, 2026 to re-prioritize the portfolio; new radioligand study dosed its first patient September 8.
Second program or expansion record at a sponsor whose first study was small
A second record at a sponsor whose first study ran at a handful of sites. The expansion is a new decision and a new award, whoever ran the first study.
From this screenStrand Therapeutics Inc.: second first-in-human study posted August 6, 2026 at HonorHealth Scottsdale and Sarah Cannon with the CMO as contact.
Taken, watched for the next award
Not sent; revisited on a changeKept visible so nothing is hidden, never led with.
CRO of record visible on the central contact
The record's central contact carries a CRO's email domain, or a CRO is listed as collaborator. The account is taken for this study. It reopens on a hold, a termination, or an expansion, and the next asset is a fresh decision.
An older record moving to Recruiting, or a site-count jump
Proof that the CRO already won: a record posted months ago that now reads Recruiting, or a site list that grew from a few to many. A brand-new record that opens as Recruiting at two or three sites with the sponsor's own mailbox is a different case: start-up is done, but the monitoring model and the expansion cohorts are still open, which is why such sponsors appear on the Accounts tab.
What each sponsor arrives with
- Sponsor and the record that surfaced it, linked to ClinicalTrials.gov, the SEC filing, or the company page with its date
- The stage in the sponsor's own words: pre-IND, IND cleared, first-in-human not yet recruiting, dose expansion
- The clinical decision owner by title, and by name where a leadership page or filing names one
- The first line to say and the claim to avoid, so outreach never says more than the record shows
Sponsor replies are passed to TD2 as they arrive; the record and its date travel with each one.
Signal classes describe categories of public record and the cadence we read them on. Per-sponsor claims live on the Accounts tab with their sources.
